Facilities Lead
Performs routine and preventative maintenance and repairs on college facilities, equipment, and grounds to provide a safe and welcoming environment. Provides oversight of facilities workers during weekend or after-hour shifts.
Manager on Duty over Weekend Shifts:
- Acts as the primary point of contact to coordinate services and resolve issues involving disruption of services and last minutes changes in campus facilities.
- Directs the work of facilities staff to provide customer service to campus facility users and ensures efficient and effective operations of events and classes taking place on campus.
- Provides consistent presence on campus by making facility rounds and conducting check-ins with housing, Wachholz Center, and events on campus.
- Reports emergency conditions beyond the capability to handle and notifies proper authorities when assistance or additional security is needed.
- Coordinates action to prevent accidents resulting from snow- or ice-covered walkways by shoveling or sweeping snow or ice from sidewalks and entrances and spreading salt, sand, or chemicals
- Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service.
- Performs grounds maintenance on campus landscape.
- Performs general maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on heating, ventilation systems, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment.
- Troubleshoots, performs general repairs, and maintains electrical and plumbing systems.
- Repairs and maintains lockable hardware such as doors, automatic electric doors, windows, lockers, and magnetic keying systems to ensure safety of facilities.
- Leads or assists in the construction, alteration, preparation, painting, and repair of structures, as necessary.
- Inspects, repairs, or troubleshoots pumps, valves, and boiler systems.
- May provide maintenance and repair of vehicles; maintains appropriate service and repair records.
- Operates and uses a broad spectrum of tools and equipment skillfully and safely.
- Reads and comprehends plans and blueprints.
- Attends related trainings, workshops, and professional development.
- Cross trains to perform other departmental and team functions; backfills for staff as needed.
- Actively participates in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and efforts to continuously improve services.
- Creates and maintains a collaborative and collegial environment with colleagues and maintains effective working relationships.
- Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned to function as successful member of the team.
- Reports to the Assistant Director of Facilities.
- High School diploma or equivalent; AND,
- Minimum of two years of work experience in multiple trade areas; AND,
- Current Montana driver’s license upon employment
- Experience working in large scale facilities
- Supervisory experience
- Current Montana boiler operator license
- Broad knowledge of trades, including materials and tools; applicable code requirements; methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment; safety precautions to be observed in the maintenance and installation of electronic and mechanical equipment; computer software programs including e-mail and service request systems.
- Ability to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the trades.
- Ability to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to electrical hazards
- Ability to safely and efficiently perform all required duties of the position including, but not limited to, work in confined spaces; work on various length ladders; and working with strong chemicals
- Working knowledge of maintenance procedures and equipment and ability to identify safety concerns
- Ability and willingness to serve as a representative for the College by interacting appropriately with the public, students, potential students, and College community
- Ability to complete related trainings as required
- Ability to read and follow directions
- Ability to be bonded and insured throughout employment
- Ability and willingness to provide quality customer service
- Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC
- Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships with staff, students, and public
- Demonstrated communication, technology, and interpersonal skills

- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical screen
- Ability to pass a driver’s license record check and maintain current Montana driver’s license and a clean driving record
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Ability to respond in the event of an emergency
- This is a Heavy-Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry. Heavy Duty involves exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds continuously to move objects.
