Custodian III

SUMMARY:
The Custodian III is responsible for cleaning and light maintenance of college facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Cleans offices, classrooms, restrooms and other areas; stocks and refills dispensers; empties trash.
  • Monitors and maintains college equipment, furniture and buildings.
  • Arranges proper room compilation for the various environments and events as directed
  • Performs hard floor maintenance including cleaning, stripping, waxing
  • Performs carpet care including shampooing and vacuuming
  • Replaces light bulbs or other fixture items
  • Moves furniture, equipment or fixtures.
  • Delivers supplies and stocks area with appropriate supplies
  • Locks and unlocks buildings
  • Reports malfunctions of fixtures, damages,  safety and/or security concerns, accidents, injuries or illness to supervisor
  • Provides college campus security and campus safety services.
  • Performs snow and ice removal from designated areas
  • Performs other duties as assigned to function as successful member of the Custodial Services team
  • Reports to the Custodial Supervisor
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in commercial cleaning
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge and skill in using cleaning equipment, products, techniques and standards.
  • Ability to read and follow directions
  • Ability to meet a high standard of safety and health code regulations
  • Ability to safely and efficiently perform all required duties of the position including, but not limited to, operating large machines such as strippers, shampooers, waxers; working on various length ladders; and working with strong chemicals
  • Working knowledge of custodial procedures and equipment and ability to identify safety problems
  • Ability and willingness to serve as a representative for the College by interacting appropriately with the public, students, potential students and College community
  • Ability and willingness to provide quality customer service
  • Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC
  • Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships with staff, students, and public
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
  • Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical screen

  • This is a Medium Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry.    Medium Duty involves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move

SUMMARY
The Custodial Manager creates a thriving and innovative environment for custodial services

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provides visionary leadership and directs the day to day operations in the management, operations, and strategic planning efforts of custodial services
  • Ensures quality and responsiveness of custodial activities; provides excellent customer service to the students, employees and public
  • Prioiritizes and schechules custodial projects; collaborates closely with Residence Life.
  • Promotes a culture of leadership within a collaborative, team-oriented environment; supervises, recruits, develops, motivates, and evaluates a team in alignment with job expectations, professional roles, and the College mission
  • Provides a broad range of financial and support operations including, but not limited to, budget, inventory, purchasing, auditing, internal reporting, forecasting, and other activities related to custodial services.
  • Assures safe operation of a variety of custodial equipment and chemicals; provides training as needed.
  • Researches, analyzes and resolves issues that arise in custodial services and addresses them proactively
  • Leads in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and improved services to students, faculty, and the community. Identifies and recommends new and emerging technologies, as well as relevant applications of present systems
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and networks with vendors
  • Responds to on-call and emergency situations; supervise and on-call system for custodial personnel. 
  • Serves a a member on various college committees and teams.
  • Meets with other college personnel for planning, idea sharing, issue resolutions, operational communications, professional development, etc. 
  • Develops and completes special projects as directed
  • Remains current in practices, trends and research related to areas of assignment
  • Attends related trainings, workshops, and professional development 
  • Cross trains to perform other departmental and team functions; backfills for custodial staff as needed 
  • Actively participates in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and efforts to continuously improve services to students, faculty, and the College
  • Creates and maintains a collaborative and collegial environment with colleagues and maintains effective working relationships 
  • Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies
  • Advances the mission of FVCC by serving on or convening committees and contributing in the community in college-related activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Reports to the Director of Facilities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum of two years of closely related experience, OR
  • Associate’s degree in a related field and a minimum of four years of closely related experience, OR
  • High school diploma or equivalent and six years of closely related experiencePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in commercial cleaning
  • Experience in public or higher education setting

  • Knowledge and ability to follow safety regulations and codes and safe work practices. 
  • Ability to safely work with chemicals and with mechanical equipment.

  • This is a Heavy Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry.    Heavy Duty involves exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds continuously to move objects.
