The City of Columbia Falls is looking for experienced candidates to fill two important leadership roles:

PATROL SERGEANT

The Patrol Sergeant performs supervisory duties of patrol officers, conducts police patrol, investigations, traffic regulation, and related community policing activities. The Columbia Falls Police Department has eleven sworn officers including the Chief, two Sergeants, two Detectives, School Resource Officer, and five patrol officers. The successful candidate will have a strong law enforcement background with thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of modern policing; thorough knowledge in all aspects of police work; and be qualified and possess exceptional skills to be a leader.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: (A) High school diploma or equivalent; and (B) Two or more years college coursework in the field of Criminal Justice is preferred; and (C) Completion of the State Basic Training Academy or equivalent academy; and (D) MLEA P.O.S.T. Intermediate Certificate and First Line Supervisor Certificate; and (E) Minimum of five (5) years’ work experience as a fully commissioned police officer; or (F) An equivalent combination of education and experience. Starting wage is $32.28 with additional pay for shift differential, advanced POST certification and officer training. LEAD WATER OPERATOR Performs administrative and skilled technical work primarily in the operation, maintenance and repair of water distribution facilities and systems to meet all requirements of state and federal water quality regulations and mandates. Competently supervises contractors and work crews and completes projects as assigned. Maintains proper inventories of needed supplies and equipment.

Desired qualifications: High School Diploma and supplemented by two years post-secondary college or technical training in a closely related field. At least five years’ experience in water systems including excavation, laying pipes and plumbing or equivalent experience and education. Possess Class 2A and 3B MT DEQ Water System Operator certifications, ABPA Backflow Prevention Certification and a State of Montana CDL. Starting wage is $25.50.
